Skiathos Useful Info

Health Care
British and other E.U. nationals are officially entitled to free medical care in Greece upon presentation of an E111 form. "Free", however, means admittance only to state hospital, and does not include nursing care, special tests or the cost of medication. If you need prolonged medical care, you should make use of private treatment. There are English speaking GPs in Skiathos, whose rates are reasonable. Ask your hotel or tourist office for details.
Pharmacies: Greek pharmacies offer an extremely sensible alternative for day to day problems other than finding a doctor. In all simple first aid matters they provide an excellent service. Easily recognized by THE GREEN CROSS symbol they are open during normal business hours. A roster in English and Greek is posted in every pharmacy advising you of the duty pharmacy which can be used outside these hours. Most staff speaks English and the medicines are of the same high standard as other Western countries.

Post Office
Local post office is open 8:00-14:00 Monday to Friday and is situated on Papadiamantis main street.
Air mail letters take up to seven days to reach the rest of Europe. For a simple letter or card, a stamp (grammatosimo) can also be purchased at the kiosks in Skiathos town. Make sure you know how much it costs to send a letter or postcard, though, as kiosk owners tend not to be up to date with the latest international postal rates. You can also drop your mail in the yellow post boxes around Skiathos town. Parcels sent abroad must be inspected, so don't wrap and seal them beforehand.

Banks

In general, opening hours are 8:00– 14:30 Monday to Thursday (or to 14:00 on Friday). All of them have exchange cashpoints providing an automated 24-hour service. You can cash traveller's cheques in all Skiathos banks, but don't forget to have your passport with you as identification is necessary for the transaction. Bureau de Change have much more longer opening hours than banks.

Shops

Shops are open from 09.00-14.00 and again from 17.30 until late. However some shops stay open all day during high season.
